Angel Shark Tagging and DNA Analysis Project

Working in Bodega Bay, California, aquarium staff tag adult angel sharks, Squatina californica, with signature beacons. These beacons periodically transmit signals to underwater receivers placed in the bay. Data from the receivers is collected every three to four weeks and will ultimately be analyzed to learn more about angelsharks and their movements in Bodega Bay. Additionally, while tagging the sharks, staff collect blood and DNA samples which are also banked for analysis. The Aquarium hopes this research will help to increase the body of knowledge of angelshark ecology and biology.
