Exhibits
Your visit to Aquarium of the Bay will take you through three fascinating environments that display the amazing riches that lie beneath the surface of the San Francisco Bay and surrounding waters. You will also meet local and exotic land animals, and learn more about the need to protect their habitats.
To enhance your experience, our expert naturalists are on hand to answer questions throughout your visit.
Discover the Bay
You'll begin your exploration of San Francisco Bay with an introduction to the distinctive ecosystems that support an incredibly wide variety of marine life. In eight exhibits featuring over a thousand aquatic animals, you learn about the creatures that make their homes in the Bay.
Under the Bay
Your Aquarium adventure continues with a descent into the hidden world beneath San Francisco Bay.
You will first enter a pulsating world of gracefully gliding Moon Jellies and Brown Sea Nettles.
From there, you will enter the first of two crystal clear tunnels, 300 feet in length, where you'll be surrounded by 700,000 gallons of filtered Bay water and more than 20,000 aquatic animals.
In the first tunnel you'll see a dynamic near-shore habitat that includes swirling schools of Anchovies, giant Sea Bass and colorful Sea Stars.
A grotto-like Giant Pacific Octopus exhibit awaits at the end of the first tunnel, where you can take a peek at this incredibly intelligent species, as well as its under water neighbors.
In the second tunnel you'll meet the mysterious and compelling marine life that lives in the Bay's deeper water -- from ginormous Sevengill Sharks to Bat Rays and Giant Skates.
Touch the Bay
Your final stop is Touch the Bay, where you will find PG&E Bay Lab, an interactive exhibit featuring local and exotic land animals as nature's ambassors for protecting their habits against climate change. Will you be able to guess which ones live in Northern California?
In this exhibit you'll be able to touch land animals like Blue Tongued Skinks and California King Snakes, as well as marine animals like Leopard Sharks and Bat Rays.
And you'll have chance to participate in hands-on experiments, see solar power at work, send e-cards to your friends and family, and other fun activities.
