Aquarium of the Bay Partners with Yale School of the Environment to Advance Ocean Innovation

We are thrilled to welcome Professor Paul Turner, an internationally recognized evolutionary biologist from the Yale School of the Environment, to the Aquarium of the Bay on Wednesday, May 29, 2025. This visit marks the beginning of an exciting collaboration focused on marine microbiology, ocean health, and environmental education.

Professor Turner will tour our animal care operations and meet with our team to explore how his groundbreaking work in phage therapy and microbial ecology can complement the Aquarium’s mission of conservation and science-based public engagement.

Aquarium of the Bay’s new research initiative with Yale School Of The Environment will be focused on the pressing issue of human-caused pollution in marine environments, with a spotlight on the San Francisco Bay. Leveraging our facility’s direct access to raw seawater from the largest estuary on the U.S. West Coast — and the observational potential of our underwater Tunnels that are among the largest in the world — this project will support innovative studies on bioaccumulation, chemical pollutants, and overall ecosystem health.

Stay tuned as we develop future projects together—where cutting-edge science meets ocean stewardship.

Paul Turner, PhD
